Gold Exploration in the James Bay Region, Quebec

The James Bay region of Quebec, within the Eeyou Istchee territory, is one of Canada's most active exploration districts for gold, lithium, and base metals. The region has attracted sustained investment over the past two decades, anchored by operating mines and a growing number of advanced exploration projects. Lux Metals' La Grande Gold Project is situated within this district, covering over 15,000 hectares across approximately 40 kilometres of prospective Archean greenstone belt.

Where is the James Bay district and what makes it geologically prospective?

The James Bay region sits within the Superior Province of the Canadian Shield, one of the most productive Archean terranes for gold globally. The La Grande Project is partially transected by the boundary between the La Grande and Opinaca subprovinces, a major geological contact that is typically marked by faults and shear zones. These structural corridors are well established as controls on gold mineralization in Archean settings.

The La Grande Subprovince hosts several greenstone belts, including the La Grande Greenstone Belt, which comprises volcano-plutonic assemblages where Archean tonalitic gneiss is overlain by intermediate to felsic intrusions and volcano-sedimentary groups. The Yasinski Group (2,732 to 2,740 million years old), composed of mafic volcanic flows, sandstones, and iron formations, is the most widespread bedrock unit on the La Grande property and hosts the principal Zone 32 gold mineralization along its contact with the La-Grande-Sud Tonalite.

Regional metamorphism in the area ranges from amphibolite facies in the southeast, to greenschist facies, and back to amphibolite facies in the north. This metamorphic framework, combined with the deep-seated shear zones transecting the region, creates a geological environment consistent with productive Archean orogenic gold systems.

What infrastructure supports exploration in James Bay?

The James Bay region benefits from significant infrastructure investment, much of it related to Hydro-Quebec's hydroelectric developments. The all-season Transtaiga Road, a four-season gravel road connecting the paved Billy Diamond/James Bay highway to the Caniapiscau Reservoir, transects the La Grande property. This road is plowed consistently during winter months.

Radisson, located approximately 85 kilometres northwest of the La Grande Project, serves as the regional service hub. It provides accommodations, a grocery store, hardware store, gas station, truck rental services, and the closest commercial airport with daily flights to Montreal. Helicopter support for site operations is available year-round from Radisson.

Hydro-Quebec's Sakami Camp, which services the LG-3 hydroelectric power plant, is situated approximately 10 kilometres northeast of the property. The LG-3 airstrip, operated by Hydro-Quebec, is directly adjacent to the east of the property. A high-voltage power transmission line crosses the property area, providing a potential access corridor subject to the necessary permissions.

The KM 381 Truck Stop provides accommodation, meals, lodging, and internet access. Commercial air services, including Air Creebec and Air Inuit, provide regular flights to nearby communities and infrastructure. What other exploration activity is occurring near the La Grande Project?

The La Grande Project is bordered by several exploration-stage properties held by companies actively exploring the James Bay region. This information is derived from publicly available assessment reports, NI 43-101 reports, and press releases, and has not been verified by Lux Metals. Mineralization described on adjacent properties is not necessarily indicative of mineralization on the La Grande Project.

Immediately east and northeast, Azimut Exploration Inc. (with KGHM Polska Miedz S.A. holding a 50% option) holds the Kukamas Property. In 2024, Azimut conducted a diamond drilling program comprising nine drill holes totalling 1,998.5 metres following a surface discovery of magmatic nickel-PGE mineralization at the Perseus and Halley showings, approximately 15 kilometres east of the La Grande property.

To the south, 9219-8845 Quebec Inc. (Canadian Mining House) holds the Sakami Property. Historical data from 1995 to 1996 exploration programs conducted by Virginia indicates gold values of up to 11.34 g/t Au in grab samples from quartz veins and sheared metasedimentary rocks.

Southwest of La Grande, Morocco Strategic Minerals Corporation (formerly Genius Metals Inc.) holds an adjacent Sakami Property. Geophysical surveys and field campaigns between 2019 and 2021 returned results from several historical mineralized showings, including channel sampling results of up to 1.71 g/t Au with associated silver and zinc.

The James Bay region also hosts several notable projects in the broader district, including the operating Eleonore gold mine (Dhilmar Ltd.) and lithium projects from Critical Elements Lithium Corporation, Patriot Battery Metals, and Winsome Resources.

What is the land status of the La Grande Project within the James Bay territory?

The La Grande Project is located on Category III Lands within the Eeyou Istchee Cree Territory, as defined by the James Bay and Northern Quebec Agreement. The property overlaps the traditional traplines of the Wemindji Cree Nation (VC04, VC08, and VC20). Jurisdiction over this portion of James Bay falls under the Cree Nation Government and the Regional Government of Eeyou Istchee James Bay.
